Traffic Jam, Flood - Jalan Perajurit

The traffic jam and flood at the flyover construction area at Jalan Perajurit had dragged on for years. Complaints after complaints were received by my Canning Service Centre located in Simee from the constituents in Ipoh Garden East area.
Inputs are welcomed for the solutions of the problems.
Apart from the question on the issue submitted to the State Assembly earlier, which I belive could put pressure on all parties to solve the issue, I have also arranged a meeting with all relevant authorities, including MBI, UEM, LLM, representative from Taman Kaya Developer and some residents in Taman Ipoh Timur (at this initial meeting, apology as we are unable to include all residents at the area). Date is fixed at 17.06.2008, two days before my birthday :-) , and the venue is to be termined later by MBI.
I will keep you all updated of the outcome.

  1. Kah Woh,
I would like to say is you have done an excellent job as a Canning State Assembly because you have helped the constituents in Ipoh Garden East to arrange a meeting with authorities. The flood and traffic jam which occurs frequently cause the constituents unconveniently. But i have a question to ask you, Kah Woh. Have the PLUS set a date of the end of the flyover construction project?

  2. Dear Y.B.,
Allow me to tender my technical opinion on a long term solution to help ease the traffic jam at the PLUS overhead bridge. The engineering solution is to widen the existing access road(Jalan Perajurit)into a four lane road. The alignment of the widening should start from the junction in front of Han City Restaurant and end at the junction to Ipoh East Coffee Shop or better still beyond this junction if there is any more road reserve available.Indeed the previous ADUN(Vincent Hooi)had initiated a right move by widening the Jalan Perajurit road right after the Padang adjacent to the PLUS carriageway but only that it's short of extending to the overhead bridge.(Due credit must be given to him for this). The short term measure that can be taken to help ease the traffic flow at the overhead bridge area where PLUS is still doing their construction works is ask them to reposition the New Jersey Barrier(the orange and white colour stuff that they use to barricade the construction site from the access road),this thing is sitting about 1/4 of the existing access road.Having observed the construction activity at the said location for the past months,I would say they(PLUS)did not have a proper Traffic Management Plan & Safety Management Plan on this location in particular.
Hope this opinion can render some input.

  3. Dear compassion seeker,

thanks for your input, as i have no much technical knowledge on the traffic flows.

just one question on the 4 lane proposal: can it be done esp at the place right below the flyover? from a layman point of view, i feel it is too narrow a place for any extension.

    any idea?

    thanks.

  4. Dear Y.B.,
Referring to your question whether the four lane can be construct right below the overhead bridge, the answer is yes.I'm sure there are Civil Engineer among your party members, just consult them especially those who have experience in highway/road design or works in highway/road project.

  6. I think most important is the date of the end of the flyover construction project. This is because traffic jam and flood never happened before the flyover construction project. But we still wonder the date of the end of the project. If the project will end soon, I think the four lane suggested by compassion seeker is not needed and vice-versa. What is the date of the end of the project?

  7. Dear mun hong cheong,
My opinion is derived from the Traffic Management and Civil Engineering school of thought. To understand why traffic jam occour at certain location,a study/survey on the development of the surrounding area need to be carry out, traffic volume, the existing road standard etc. It's not so simple as you think(by saying after Plus construction works completed, there will be no traffic jam).If you are just a layman,I don't blame your remarks on this subject however if you are a Civil Engineer by profession,I question your Professional Code Of Ethic.
On whether a four lane road need or need not to be construct, the State Government can always engage a Traffic Management Consultant or a Civil Engineering Consultant or using the services of Local Authorities like M.B.I./J.K.R. to put up a study on this particular sibject.
Last and not least if my words offended you,I say sorry.

  9. Dear Y.B.,

A friend of mine told me your statement reported on the MSM regarding the solution to this issue,I had not read the MSM for years. If what been told by my friend is true,I'm a bit dissapointed with you Y.B.,your answer/solution/excuses to this problem is not much different from those Y.B from Barisan Nasional in general,"cut and paste type" like what you had mentioned in one of your article.
Y.B.,this(Traffic Jam,Flood-Jalan Perajurit) is a very clear technical problem,a technical problem need a technical solution.
    Thank you.

  14. As a quick solution, I proposed that traffic flow from Ipoh Garden East towards Jusco be made a double line so that vehicles cannot turn right. The same goes for traffic from Perajurit near the flyover not allowed to turn into Taman Kaya by putting double line.

The traffic direction at the flyover from Perajurit to Taman Ipoh Selatan be reverse. All these traffics jammed the place normally.

Another alternative is to turn the road under the flyover into three lanse with 2 lanes from Jusco towards Ipoh Garden East.

Think about it. I am fed up with jam.
