After attending Bukit Gantang’s by-election’s Ceramahs for 4 consecutive nights, I have decided to take rest today.
At around 10pm just now, a constituent from Ipoh Garden South called me up and informing me of the on-going telco constructions works at the First Floor of a shop right opposite his house. I called up the Special Officer to the Mayor and informing him the same. I went to the site and negotiated with the supervisor in charge, En. Nizam, whom had finally agreed to stop the installation until Monday. Coincidently, he was the one I spoke to last week when I was attending another telco complaint in Laluan 3, Kg, Simee, of which stop-work-order was eventually issued.
This issue had been haunting me. I have received numerous complaints over Telco issue ever since the first day becoming the elected rep for Canning. The worst case can be seen in Kg Simee which almost all operators of tele-communications have installed their transmission towers.
I am not very much concerned of whether the transmission tower indeed brings harmful effect to the People. I am also not concerned whether the installation met the guidelines so set, as the guidelines seems so loose to the effect that “so long as it is not erected on top of a residential house, it is ok”
My concern is if there are complaints by the residents, the State Government and MBI have and ought to act on it. I am very angry on the Telco’s attitude, where:-
(i) They will still erect and install the tower even if there is no prior approval from MBI;
(ii) They will do the works at off-office hours, at night, on off-day and it makes me find

I have suggested for a new guidelines be drafted as the current guidelines by MCMC will never serve its purpose. I have suggested for the State Government to impose daily fine on illegal towers as what the Local Government did in some cases like the illegal restaurant operators. I have suggested for the State Government to pull down the illegal towers erected so as to give the Telco a warning. But it seems that the State Government especially the EXCO in charge was not interested in the issue. Failure to act even since the BN’s time until now the Pakatan’s time had resulted in Telco being arrogance and act ignorance of law.
I am so angry where there were remarks made by certain leader (some of my blog followers will know who) in the Party and State Government had told the complainants that “if you don’t want Telco tower, then you don’t use your mobile phonelah!
What an irresponsible and BN style's statement!

Thank you very much for saying this..you have made yourself very clear in the sense that sometimes, in the reality of things, some PR leaders are really not that different from BN at all. Unfortunately, that is extremely disappointing but the question remains, does power really change someone to the extent that people are willing to sell and trade their beliefs just for the sake of power and personal gains?

So, thank you again and if this country is lead by leaders like yourself, I might actually make this country my place of residence rather than somewhere else...
last year my china friend visited us, we wanted to extend her visa for another month..we were advised to go to immigration at putrajaya. at the immigration , at the entrance we were welcome by an officier.we were impressed. upon arriving at the counter we were advised to pay rm1 for a form .

its the system how much money been spend on training ? seemed like 5 person doing one job.for pr to change these, it would be a hard task.i think we have to have some patience !
I agree with you. Some of your DAP Adun are just the same as BN adun. They only know how to get the best position for photo sessions and do nothings else. You can only see them when Kit or some big fellows from your party are around.

At the same time, the Government department still have the UMNO/MCA mindset and many of the staff especially the polis are dead against the PR who tries to change the system

ReplyDeletei have to agree with anonymous (8:45am) regarding certain DAP Aduns not performing. I cannot name it out here publicly but i am able to tell you privately.
It could be civil servants who had previously worked under BN who are hesitant to act against this mighty telcos.

Its good to bring up the issue but the timing must be right too!
Being in the field of politics for a little over a year now in Malaysia and quite a number of years in US...I've noticed that state representatives or any sort of politicians always seem to not be "good" enough isn't it?! I am not a politician but I've been around them for a while to comfortably say, politicans deserve a breather once in a while and they are humans like any of us too and perhaps those of you who are quick to criticize them might want to put yourself in their shoes once in a while and ask yourself exactly what they have to go through everyday as politicans in the lime light....
ReplyDeleteWhen politicians fail to address something crucial or something that is not much of any importance, people are quick to say, "well, why did we vote for this idiot when he/she doesn't seem to be doing his job." However, when they are willing to face the torch and say the things that they truly believe in, some people say "oh, why is he/she being an imbecile for addressing the issue now..the timing is not right?!"
I believe in the freedom of speech and I believe that there is no such thing as the "right time" You are the one who is only able to decide when is the right time for you and not anyone else. If the politicians are just waiting around for the right time, trust me buddy..they will be waiting forever.
PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE PERSONAL, just an advocate of healthy debate. I guess what I am trying to say is, perhaps we should for once give Kah Woh a pat in the back for the bravery and the charisma he showed for posting this blog and let him know that we have his back. How many times, do you think he gets a sincere "thank you", "good job, man" or a positive feedback? Truthfully, not enough...He may not need these good words to encourage himself to do better but let us all take a step back and ask ourselves; "How do we actually feel when everybody is just so quick at criticizing myself and whatever I am doing, seems to not be good enough?"
Have somebody say just one negative thing about you to your face everyday...I can safely bet, you'll be looking for a psychologist very soon about your self esteem. But think about this, even when somebody says something SUPPORTIVE for even once in a blue moon, that is enough to encourage and feel the support that you need.
When you have 31k constituents constantly judging you...it takes a toll. So, why don't we try to be one of them that makes Kah Woh feels supported by offering constructive criticism rather than just calling him "not a smart politican".
It is not politically stupid for Kah Woh to raise unhappiness at this juncture as he is doing his duty as Adun Canning and he cannot just sweep things under the carpet just because there is a by-election coming up.
ReplyDeleteI sincerly hope all Pakatan Adun will raise issue at anytime and anywhere when the matter arise and not keep quiet when certain people says it is not the right time. If Kah Woh does that he is no way different from BN Adun.

ReplyDeleteWhy not DAP have a feedback form every 6 months? One needs to have feedback to see where are his weakness and whether he is working on it.
Also the right to stand for election in his area is not 100% autmomatically. This to ensure ADUN/MP is always alert to the rakyat needs. But the rakyat can be demanding - eg can be inviting ADUN for marriage, birthdays etc or complain about lokangs and jalan2.

As far as I'm concerned... being smart gets you now where...... being righteous and just.... and most of all.... doing the right thing whichever direction the wind is blowing will always prevail....
If you have a problem wihin your party sort it out internally and not blame the exco. So you are saying Ngar Kor Meng who is local govt in charge of Telco is useless? Use your brain.....

ReplyDeleteHowever i am saddened to note YB have such a short memory and forgotten of the fact that the PKT govt Perak did actually took action on the telco issue during its 11 months tenure in power. Therefore i dun entirely agree with your statement that PKT govt failed to deliver on telco issue.
Correct me if i'm wrong YB as i do recalled when the issue of telco was raised, the EXCO for the local authority triumphantly announced to perakian that the PKT govt has solved the problem and thereby imposed and collected more than a million ringgit in fines (ie. RM 3,000.00 per tower) from telco companies for erecting illegal towers.
Since you are now alleging that the PKT govt did nothing despite your good effort and suggestion to the EXCO, are you now saying that the EXCO for local government had failed in his duty taking into consideration that the licensing of the telco tower comes directly under the purview and the jurisdiction of local authority???
Or perhaps YB is saying and is now throwing a challenge to BN govt to do better than PKT on telco issue now that they are in power.
Kindly enlightened us.

ReplyDeleteThe simple truth is that erection of telco is under the jurisdiction of local authority. So who sit in the local authority? Apart from the obvious scapegoat viz. dato bandar himself, it is the councillors themselves.
So before, we go blaming all the PKT EXCOs to MB, perhaps YB care to share with us who are the councillors who sit in "One Stop Centre"??? I sincerely hope that no one of them is from Canning.
I strongly believe one must tackle the problem from the root, otherwise the so call problem will keep on cropping up.
Last but not least, i do feel sorry for YB as PKT govt have so limited people that certain EXCOs have to monopolize all portfolios including local authority until he he has no time to attend to YB's complaint.....
Don't blame you for being angry and frustrated with the telco issue. With an EXCO member incharge of local govt and having interests in controlling so many portfolios, where the hell can he find the time to look into your concern. This is what you get having a greedy EXCO who wanted everything for himself.

ReplyDeleteThis is just a small issue which compare to the Canning Garden flooding every time it rain. Being Adun for my kawasan what have you done? You can’t even solve the flooding and yet you blame, blame, blame others for not doing their jobs.
On the telco issue, if you really want to serve, why not you take MBI to court for erecting illegal telcos?
I totally support Canning Mali on the flooding around the Canning Garden roundabout. We have brought this up to you when Pakatan was still the government. But what happened?? Nothing... big NATO. ReplyDeleteNobody say is easy but i must say the EXCO on local authority has done a tremendous job taking into consideration that he is also an MP. Just look at the number of portfolios he has to handle... Yet he still have time and brain to settle the telco issue by making the state richer by imposing million ringgit fine. As the old saying goes "one stone kill two birds".
However i do question YB on your motive in blogging on this telco issue.
Reading your blog an irresistable conclusion i have is that you are either not too happy with the great effort by your EXCO on this issue or is frustrated with him for not listenning to you. Otherwise i am very sure you would have spoken to him on this in private. So are you hitting at the stone wall???
Mind you, there are so many unsolved issues in canning such as the frequent flash flood (whenever it rain), unlighted street lights, horrific traffic jam (at jusco junction) and etc... Yet you seems not concerned and bothered on having these issues solved but instead harp on telcos issues (after the EXCO has taken step by imposing million ringgit fines).
As an honourable YB, please more actions less talk and don't blame or pick on others if you cannot get the job done or solves issues that are on your hand now.
anak ipoh and anonymous, i totally disagree with your comments. How can you blame the PKT's Perak EXCO on local authority for having taking so many other portfolios. Admit it he is the only one who "looked intelligent" and seemed to be "the brain" behind the senior EXCO.
